(Advanced) Setting up Custom Dimensions

Custom Dimensions tag customers during interactions, tracking personas, leads, and ad campaigns via UTM parameters as they navigate your website.

What are Custom Dimensions?

Custom Dimensions apply persistent tags to customers during their interactions with swivl, such as first-time visits, return visits, or when identified as specific personas or leads. These tags seamlessly integrate with UTM parameters, allowing for enhanced tracking of ad campaign performance and user behavior throughout their website journey. This ensures a deeper understanding of customer activity and campaign effectiveness.

We will be setting up three Custom Dimensions in your Google Analytics 4 account.
  • swivl Chat User
  • swivl Persona
  • swivl Funnel

Step 1

Inside GA4 (Google Analytics) navigate to Admin and select Custom Definitions

Select the Create Custom Dimensions button

Step 3

In the slide-out, add the information for each of the custom dimensions (you’ll do this three separate times)
  • swivl Chat User
    • Dimension name: swivl Chat User
    • Scope: User
    • Description: Interacted with swivlBot
    • User Property: swivl_chat_user
  • swivl Persona
    • Dimension name: swivl Persona
    • Scope: User
    • Description: swivl persona type
    • User Property: swivl_customer_type
  • swivl Funnel
    • Dimension name: swivl Funnel
    • Scope: User
    • Description: current funnel
    • User Property: swivl_funnel
