🔊 Changing Your Bot's Voice
This article walks you through how to select and apply a different voice for your swivl bot's phone interactions. The whole process takes just a few minutes.
Step 1: Find a Voice You Like
swivl uses Twilio's voice library to power your bot's speech. You can browse and preview all available voices directly on Twilio's documentation page.
- Visit the Twilio voice configuration page:
https://www.twilio.com/docs/voice/conversationrelay/voice-configuration
- Browse the list of available voices. You can filter by language, gender, accent, and style.
- Click the play button next to any voice to preview how it sounds.
- Once you've found the voice you want, copy its Voice ID. The Voice ID is the alphanumeric code displayed next to the voice name. Click the copy icon to grab it.

💡 Tip: Each voice has tags like "american," "male," "conversational," or "narrative_story" to help you find one that fits your brand's personality. Take a minute to listen to a few before deciding. |
Step 2: Apply the Voice in swivl
Once you have your Voice ID copied, head into your swivl account to paste it in.
- From the left navigation menu, go to Settings.
- Select Apps, then click on Twilio.
- Locate the Voice Speech Model field. You'll see a note that reads "Click to see available models. Copy VoiceID and paste below."
- Paste your copied Voice ID into the Voice Speech Model field.
- Save your changes.

⚠️ Important: If you have multiple Twilio instances set up, make sure you update the Voice Speech Model field on the correct instance. Each instance is configured independently. |
Step 3: Test Your Bot
After saving, we recommend placing a test call to confirm your bot is using the new voice. This is the fastest way to catch any issues before your customers do.
